Hanalei Mac & Honey
Dry-roasted macadamia and single-apiary honey from the north shore of Kauaʻi.
Kauaʻi · Kīlauea, Kauaʻi Est. 2014
The story
Hanalei Mac & Honey started as a roadside cooler on the Kūhiō Highway and a hand-lettered sign. Maile Char-Texeira was selling cracked macadamia from her family's orchard near Kīlauea and jars of honey from the hives she kept at the tree line.
The macadamia is still dry-roasted in small batches — no oil, low and slow — and finished plain, with Mākena salt, or rolled in raw island honey and dehydrated into a brittle. The honey is single-apiary and never blended across the seasons, so the spring lehua jar tastes nothing like the autumn one.
Maile likes to say the bees are the real makers and she just bottles the thank-you note.
